A board-certified animal surgeon at Veterinary Specialists of Connecticut since 2008, Steven Leshem, DVM received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Tufts University’s Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine before completing internships and residencies at animal hospitals and veterinary schools throughout the United States. A diplomate with the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, Steven Leshem, DVM is also a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association.
At his current position at the West Hartford-based, Veterinary Specialists of Connecticut, Steven Leshem, DVM contributes to a multifaceted team, providing comprehensive surgical, medical, rehabilitation, and dental care for small animals. Outside the clinical setting, Dr. Leshem lectures professional groups and publishes in industry journals, including the American Journal of Veterinary Research, on specialty areas of veterinary medicine. Most recently, Steven Leshem, DVM lectured on the clinical applications of MRIs in small animal practices at the 2010 and 2011 quarterly meetings for the Hartford and Litchfield County Veterinary Medical Associations.
Prior to joining Veterinary Specialists of Connecticut full time, Steven Leshem, DVM performed a rotating internship in animal medicine and surgery at the clinic from 2000 to 2001. Following his internship, he relocated to Golden, Colorado, where he served as an associate veterinarian at Mesa Veterinary Hospital and also trained with surgical residents and performed rounds at Veterinary Specialists of Northern Colorado and Colorado State University. Dr. Leshem went on to work at Adams County Animal Hospital in Arvada, Colorado before performing a surgery internship at Veterinary Specialists of Nevada, located in Reno, and teaching in the veterinary technician program at Truckee Meadows Community College, where he was an Adjunct Professor. From 2005 to 2008, Dr. Leshem was a small animal surgery resident at Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
