Steven Leshem, who is currently a staff surgeon at Veterinary Specialists of Connecticut in West Harford, possesses expertise in neurosurgery, orthopedics, and soft tissue procedures. In addition to attaining board certification from the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, he maintains membership in the American Veterinary Medical Association. When he’s not treating animals, Steve Leshem, DVM, enjoys supporting animal welfare in other ways, such as donating to the Protectors of Animals group in East Hartford.

For nearly 40 years, Protectors of Animals has worked to rescue stray, abandoned, and abused dogs and cats. The organization is 100 percent staffed by volunteers who contribute their skills, energy, and resources to care for needy pets, provide them with medical care, and find them new homes or foster arrangements.

Protectors of Animals is a member of the Local Independent Charities of America (LICA) and has earned the Independent Charities Seal of Excellence, an award given to fewer than five percent of U.S. charities. To earn the seal, organizations must demonstrate strong fiscal management and a high level of public accountability.
